Understanding the game ratings


When you are buying games, be it for your kids or for yourself. The games rating on the packaging let you know what to expect from them in term of content. If you don't want to be shocked yourself or let your kids play stuff you don't them going near, get clued in on the different standards and game ratings you are likely to encounter

The entertainment software rating board is a self regulatory organization that issue rating for games and entertainment software that are released in Unitaed States, Canada and Mexico.This is also the rating system that aooears most frequently at the begening of video game trailers and previews on the internet.

Ratings

Early Childhood – These games have pretty much no offensive content and are safe to be played by very young children. Educational games and games featuring characters like Nemo and Winnie the Pooh usally fall under this ratings.


Everyone – Games rated E might contain extremely limited cartoon violence, if at all and are hence safe for most kids to play. Most sports games and sim racer fall under this category.

Everyone 10+ - As the name implies , these games are considered unsuitable for children under 10 years of age to play , because of mildy suggestive themes and possible of blood, violence and mild languages.

Teen – Considered safe for people 13 or more, this rating os given to games that feature a lot more violence, suggestive themes, gambling or rare use of mild languages.


Mature 17+ - These games are very likely to have copious amount of sexual themes, blood violence, or foul languages.Several US retailer require age Identification to sell the games. Call of the duty, Grand theft auto etc.

Adults only – A no brainer, these games are only to be played by adults.Except nudity extreme violence or extreme foul languages. GTA San Andreas, Manhunt 2 etc.



 Rating Pending- Games under this category have been submited to ESRB for rating but do not have one yet. These are only found in pre release packs, trailer pack or promotional packs..
